Appointment & Election of a Parent Governor for The Quay School

Currently, there is a vacancy on the Governing Body for TWO Parent Governors.

There are a number of circumstances that disqualify an individual from serving as a school governor.  In order to ensure eligibility, if you decided to stand for election, you will be asked to complete a PG1b declaration form, and declare any convictions or bind-overs that you may have incurred; including any that be regarded as ‘spent’ under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.  You will also need to successfully complete a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check within 21-days of your appointment.

If you would like to put your name forward, please submit the form below by noon on Tuesday 17 June 2025.  You are invited to write a brief statement (no more than 200 words) about yourself (NOT an ‘election address’), which, in the event of an election being necessary, will be circulated to all parents/carers of pupils at the school, along with those from other candidates, and the ballot paper.  If we receive more 'Offers to Serve' than there are vacancies, an election will be necessary and you will be notified.

The school’s governing board is responsible for providing confident and strategic leadership, and creating robust accountability, oversight and assurance for the school’s educational and financial performance.  The board is passionate about education and committed to continuous school improvement to ensure the best possible outcomes for our pupils.

Parent Governor, work with the board to make sure it effectively carries out its duties. You’ll also play a vital role in bringing a parental perspective, but you’re not there to speak ‘on behalf’ of the parent body. To be a parent governor you should have:

  • A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for children

  • Good interpersonal skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills

  • The specific skills required to make sure the governing board delivers effective governance

As a School Governor, your term of office would be for four-years, and you are expected to attend a number of meetings throughout the academic year; maintain confidentiality; commit to undertake statutory and other training courses and regularly visit the school.
