Parent Governor Vacancies
All parents or carers of registered pupils at the school (or any academy in the MAT) at the time of a parent governor election are eligible to become parent governors. The Department for Education (DfE) defines parents as:
-
All natural (biological) parents, whether they are married or not;
-
Any person who, although not a biological parent, has parental responsibility for a child or young person (this could be a step-parent, guardian or other relative);
-
Any person who, although not a biological parent, has care of a child or young person
Grandparents would only be eligible to be parent governors if they care for the child on a full-time, settled basis or if they are the legal guardian of the child. A person can't be a parent governor if they are an elected member of the local authority; or, if they are paid to work in the school for more than 500-hours in any consecutive 12-month period (at the time of election or appointment).
Parents/Carers MUST 'offer to serve' as a Parent Governor using an agreed process and channels. Below is a list of schools we service that are currently inviting 'offers to serve' for Parent Governor vacancies.
